The Read-A-Thon at school starts next week. The theme is Ob-Seuss-ed with Reading. There will be lots of fun reading activities all month long - starting today with a book swap. This was yesterday's The Cat In The Hat lunch for Heidi. I read her the book at lunchtime while she ate her lunch. This lunch stayed at home and didn't travel but I think it would have still looked fine if it had it been sent to school.
bologna sandwich with a cheese cat in the hat topper, goldfish, apples
This was my first time at creating a "cheese masterpiece". It was fun to do but took a little longer than I have time for in the morning - especially if I had to make more than one! I could easily do this the night before though. I know that I can do a neater job but it was a fun first attempt.
I also got a new tool in my most recent bento purchases. This knife has the blade sort of like an exacto knife. I used it to cut the stripes into the apple. It's WAY better than trying with my usual kitchen knife. I think I could even attempt a checkered apple and it would come out pretty decent. It's not because my kitchen knives aren't good knives (they really are) it's also the slant on the blade that makes it really easy to get the apple skin off.
Here are some items that I used to make this lunch and the inspiration:
Love how you drew the cheese, so awesome

What a cute cat! You did an awesome job of drawing him. The striped apple is such a great idea. I will be sharing this post on Facebook and Pinterest.
